What is a Smart Home

A Smart Home is a home that uses advanced devices to help your household run more efficiently. A Smart Home is equipped with devices that can be controlled remotely, even when the homeowner isn't in the property. Smart Homes incorporate several advanced automation systems that allow you to control the temperature, lighting, security and more.

At ImpraGas, we supply a selection of advanced systems that make your home much smarter! Click here to go to our SmartHome page, or keep reading to learn more about the products we supply.

Nest Protect

It's essential to have a smoke alarm in your home to protect your household in the event of a fire. It's also essential to test your smoke alarm once a month, but this is something that many of us forget to do, potentially putting lives at risk.

The Nest Protect smoke alarm is 'smart' because it is able to test itself, allowing you to rest easy in the knowledge that your smoke alarm is in good working condition. It will also alert you if your battery is running low with a phone notification.

It's an incredibly smart alarm that can detect what the problem is, giving you an early warning. For instance, if you have left something cooking and it starts to give off smoke, your Nest Protect will send you the following message: "Please be aware, there is smoke in the kitchen."

If there is a potential hazard, the alarm will send an alert to all household members' phones, whether they're at the property or not, so you will always be aware of any danger. If it's not a real emergency, you can silence the alarm using your phone, saving you from having to dash on over to the alarm itself.

Nest Thermostat

A Nest Thermostat makes it easy to manage your hot water tanks. If you want a little extra hot water, or to adjust your water schedule, you can use your Nest Thermostat to do so. You can even get your hot water to turn off automatically if you aren't going to be in the house.

Using a smart thermostat in your home will help you to run a more efficient system and can save you money, since you won't be using energy unnecessarily. The Nest Thermostat even gets smarter over time - it learns your household energy usage and lets you know how you could be saving even more money.

The new Boiler Plus legislation will be coming into effect soon - one of the main aims of this law is to give consumers more control over their energy usage, and installing a smart thermostat in your home is a great way to do just that.

Nest Cam

Connecting with your phone, the Nest Cam monitors your property even when you aren't in. Tracking your location using your phone, the cam turns on when you leave the house, keeping a watchful eye over your home until you return.

If the Nest Cam detects anything unexpected, it sends you an alert to let you know. So if there is unexpected movement or noise in your home, you'll be the first to know. The Nest Came can tell the difference between a genuine disturbance and general background noise, so you won't be disturbed just because the neighbour's dog is barking!

However, if it's your pets causing the issue, you can actually use the speech command function to issue instructions to your pets or to let someone know you're aware they are in your home.

You can also opt in for Nest Aware, which allows the cam to record all the footage it sees, allowing you to view anything you've missed.

How often does a boiler need to be replaced?

A boiler is a key component of your home - if something goes wrong with it you may be left without heating and hot water, which can be a real nightmare.

Unfortunately, this always seems to happen when you least expect it, leaving you wishing you’d replaced it when it was still hanging in there. Here's some advice about how long the average boiler should last and how often you should replace the boiler in your home.

How long is a boiler supposed to last?

A good boiler should last up to 10-15 years with minimal issues, as long as you do what you should to keep it in good working condition. This starts from as soon as you receive your new boiler, which should be installed by a Gas Safe registered engineer.

A new boiler should be, at most, a once-in-a-decade investment, so you’ll want to make sure you're getting it right from day one. At ImpraGas, we offer a professional boiler installation service that ensures your boiler is installed to the highest standard. Our installations and inspections are only ever carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers who know exactly how to get the job done.

How often should I get my boiler serviced?

To make sure your boiler keeps performing well, it's vital to have your boiler serviced once a year. This annual servicing ensures that your boiler will run efficiently all year ‘round. Also, an annual service will often be a condition of your insurance policy and your boiler warranty agreement.

We offer a 10-year service plan with the boilers we install, which means that in the unlikely event of a breakdown, the manufacturer of your appliance will be out to assist you within 24 hours, at no extra cost! This is to ensure that your boiler lasts for its intended lifespan, if not longer.

Wondering what is involved in a typical boiler check? We wrote a helpful blog to clear up any confusion, so read it here: What happens in a boiler service?

We've worked so hard to achieve these awards and we can't thank those who support us enough! ImpraGas always has the customers best interests in mind and we aim to provide a 5-star customer experience to all who use our service.

ImpraGas was launched in 2012 by our founder Joseph Valente, winner of the BBC Apprentice 2015. It was created with the aim of changing the public perception of the average 'Gas Man' or 'Salesman' and always putting the customer first. To suit this, all of our packages include everything a customer need to ensure their new boiler is a sound investment, giving them a 10-year peace of mind.

The aim of ImpraGas is to become the UK's leading boiler specialists. Our team dedicates itself to delivering outstanding service, focusing on quality, reliability, honesty, value for money and high-quality workmanship. As we only install boilers and central heating systems, we are now experts in installations and masters of this sector.

Supporting the local community is incredibly important to us at ImpraGas, so we're very pleased to become an award-winning company which can help those around us. Our founder, Joseph Valente recognises the importance of giving back and so we work to help local charities, school engagements and provide young children with an insight as to what the plumbing industry is all about. Joseph himself even attends local schools to speak about apprenticeships, plumbing and how to inspire the young entrepreneurs among us.

Once again, thank you to everyone who supports ImpraGas on our journey. We hope you'll be seeing a lot more of us in the future!

NSPCC Charity

“The NSPCC wants to protect children at risk, to help children who’ve been abused rebuild their lives, and to find the best ways to prevent child abuse from happening in the first place. That’s why we’ve chosen the NSPCC to be the ImpraGas Charity of the Year 2018.”

Joseph Valente, Managing Director

At ImpraGas, we share the NSPCC's belief that all children should be kept safe. Throughout 2018, Joseph Valente and the team at ImpraGas will be supporting the NSPCC to help raise awareness and funds which are vital to keeping children and young people safe across the UK.

We at ImpraGas also value the importance of happy families. We believe that children and happy families are the key to a loving home. Impra is a part of people's daily lives - your boiler is at the heart of your home, and we hope we can be an addition to the happiness each household should experience.

How are we supporting the NSPCC this year?

Joseph Valente has provided a number of motivational talks across schools in the UK. Having been expelled from school when he was only 15, Joseph empathises with the work NSPCC does to support the children and young people who are struggling. That's why this year we have made NSPCC our Charity of the Year and will do what we can to help their cause.

  • We will continue to donate to NSPCC Childline and the Speak Out Stay Safe campaign.
  • Organising various staff fundraising opportunities including the Three Peaks Challenge, Skydiving, the Rutland Family Bike Ride and even just humble cake sales!
  • The ImpraGas team have recently signed up to the NSPCC campaign which supports children's mental health and encourages the Government to provide more funds for Childline. Sign the petition.
  • Continuing to utilise our social media to raise awareness of these campaigns.
  • Joseph will continue to visit schools and help raise awareness and support children who need it most.

We hope that you will help us support the NSPCC this year and donate to our JustGiving page. The NSPCC works tirelessly to prevent child abuse and help those who have suffered rebuild their lives. Please help us help them to continue to protect children who are at risk.
